Task:

Students need to submit an individual report (4,000 words, +/-10%), culminating in a consultancy project based on an organisation of their choice with suggestions for action. Students must justify their approach to managing the project and data collection and consider corporate accountability, ethics and professionalism and any organisational constraints in developing their conclusions and recommendations.

Proposed template for the report (but you must make your report specific to your case study organisation and your findings):

Situational Analysis of Case Study Organisation showing appropriate, logical
analysis of secondary data, including industry trends (SWOT)
Problem Identification – raising the various issues identified by the situational
analysis. Your primary data collection could go here to support the problem
identification with (for example) customer or stakeholder views/input.
Possibilities (Options) – showing awareness that there are several possible
approaches. This section will include an assessment of the various approaches and justification for the approach chosen. Students should choose an appropriate model/theory (TOWS, CBA, Business Case, SAFe, etc) to assess the options. This section could also include primary data, showing how it contributed to selecting the appropriate project. Risk Assessment and Stakeholder Analysis may also feature here as tools to justify the approach taken.

Specific Project – Explanation of the overall project, including the Detailed Plan of Action (use of appropriate tools or the principles of the appropriate tools – WBS, CPA, Gantt chart, Resource Planning charts, etc). This section would include aim and objectives, risk assessment, stakeholder analysis, and a detailed plan of action to enable the organisation to understand exactly what  action is required.

Component 2: COURSEWORK

Task:

You will present the report’s outcomes in a presentation for the organisation

The presentation will last ten minutes plus up to five minutes for questions and should ‘sell’ the solution to the issue, with justification and plans to evaluate impact.

Please note that you will be stopped at ten minutes.

Your presentation should have a clear introduction and conclusion

It should concentrate on the solution to the problem and the details of the recommended project concerning justification (but this will not be the main thrust of the presentation).

Your presentation will include a section on the project’s expected impact and how this will be evaluated.

The presentation in this module should complement (not just repeat) your report and should be a ‘call to action’ for your client company. After watching your presentation, they need to understand what they can do to follow your plan.

Students will submit a 2,000-word self-reflection critically analysing the factors that influenced how efficiently and effectively they completed their Business Consultancy Project and a Personal Development Plan to show how they intend to continue their professional development after completing their programme of study
