Working in a small group (2 – 3 people)
- Discuss which places in London or any specific area in London you have visited and/or would like to visit.
- Using appropriate resources, research places that interest you in London.
- Develop a tourist route feasible for implementation in London or in any specific area in London that you wish to experience.
- Act upon your choice experiencing London or any specific area in London as an International Tourist Destination through the lens of a tourist.
CHTM35 Assessment Task :
- Critically evaluate the place of tourism in contemporary societies in relation to London or any specific area in London.
- Engaging with academic debates in Tourism and Hospitality as well as using your personal experience of visiting London or any specific area in London as a Tourist Destination individually develop:
Case Study
Critically evaluate the place of tourism in contemporary societies in relation to London or any specific area in London.
- Provide brief information about the case study of the selected destination.
- Analyse the issues /trends and developments within your chosen destination in or around London. Provide adequate references (destination resources and/or academic sources) that support its existence.
- Critically discuss how socio-cultural and socio-economic factors may affect the visitors and the destination.
- Apply academic knowledge and concepts to the analysis of your chosen destination and individually describe the issues facing the selected destination.
CHTM35 Further Guidance:
Using academic resources and appropriate reliable websites, conduct research about London or any specific area in London as a tourist destination, and while writing your assignment consider the following:
- A brief history of London or any specific area in London from tourism industry perspective.
- Critical analysis of the particular issues related to tourism activities in London or any specific area chosen.
- Critically discuss how socio-cultural and socio-economic factors may affect the tourists’ experience, activities, and destination development.
- Demonstrate critical awareness of how different theoretical perspectives position tourism within contemporary societies in application to London or the chosen area.
- After visiting the destination, engage with academic debates in Tourism and Hospitality related literature and current issues to provide a personal reflective account of your experiences related to the key trends and issues that the destination is facing.
- Link your experiences to relevant motivational theories and models learned in this module, using specific examples from your visit to illustrate your point of view.
You will be given credit for the originality and relevance of your approach, for consistency throughout your work, for citing relevant references (including theories and concepts) and for engaging with academic debates. Credit will also be given for a clearly structured answer, for demonstrating analytical powers, and for original or imaginative thinking.
