The written current event article summary should be about 3-6 pages in length (more pages are okay) plus an NSU cover sheet (as the first page for all assignments) along with the complete reference for this article in APA style at the end (the reference should provide the author’s name, year of publication, the title of the article, the source, and the URL link if you retrieve it from an online source). In addition, if the source is available online (such as SHRM.com, CNN.com or other news outlet), provide the retrieval or viewing date right before the URL.

Students should also prepare to discuss the current event topic with the class in 2-3 minutes (online students can post a 2-3 paragraph written summary of the article and its implications on the coming week’s discussion forum. OR: you can do a 2-3 minutes PPT presentation with voice-over, podcast or video summary and post it or the link on the coming week’s discussion forum). In your paper summary and discussion, include the following under relevant Headings / Subheadings:

1. Title of the article and author(s)

2. The key points of the article

3. Relevance of the article to human resources practice and literature (HR concept and/or theory). You can link it to HR topics discussed in your textbook (cite and reference the book as relevant).

4. What did you learn from the article?

5. Reference / Source of the news or article (all in the APA Style).

Note: This must be a CURRENT event (preferably this month, this year or last year), not something you find on a website from several years ago that simply refers to HR topic. See the recommended Grading Rubric for the assignment.
